Kirsten Hintner has had a varied career as writer, filmmaker and producer, working for a variety of bodies including the BBC and Open University, and subsequently running her own company Kirsten Hintner Productions. Kirsten has several years experience working with children and young adults on filming projects and various educational enterprises. In 2010, she ran a series of environmental filming workshops for schools in Pembrokeshire, the two film products winning first and second prizes in their respective categories at a National Schools Media Awards Ceremony in 2011. She is the Administrator of Sea Watch’s Adopt A Dolphin scheme, editing also its newsletters. She has had a passion for conservation and the welfare of animals and wildlife since a very young child, has worked for many animal charities, and her aim is to make a difference within the world of conservation and welfare, and to help protect animals and threatened species internationally.
Dr Peter Evans is Director of the UK marine environmental research charity, Sea Watch Foundation, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the School of Ocean Sciences, University of Wales Bangor. An international authority on marine mammals, he advises the European Commission, national governments, industry, and conservation NGOs on cetaceans. He was founding Secretary and later Chairman of the European Cetacean Society, and edited European Research on Cetaceans for twenty years. A member of the Advisory Committee of the international conservation agreement ASCOBANS, he was given the Education and Outreach Award by UNEP in 2009; and in 2012, the European Cetacean Society gave him the award for outstanding contribution to marine mammal conservation. He has given more than 100 talks at international conferences and symposia in 25 countries, written or edited 12 books, and is sole or co-author of about 200 scientific publications. He is a keen amateur photographer and has won awards for his photographs of marine wildlife.
Alice Ormiston is currently a part-time illustrator and full time marine biology student at Plymouth University. She decided to volunteer for Sea Watch Foundation offering her skills as an illustrator in 2014, producing their Christmas card and then very quickly was snapped up to illustrate The Magic Dolphin. Alice loves the ocean, and her special interest is Cetacea. Her plan is to become a marine mega-fauna researcher in the field, hopefully studying Cetacea or Elasmobranchs (sharks & rays). Alice simply oozes artistic talent and was the obvious choice to illustrate this book. She's available to take on commisions.
